If I only play Skyweaver for free and don’t purchase anything, do I still need a Sequence Wallet?

Yes, you may have the opportunity to receive Silver cards via Ranked Rewards (i.e. by ranking highly on the leaderboards), so you’ll need to have a wallet to receive the Silver cards.
